Discover the timeless mystery and intrigue of Josephine Tey's classic novel, The Daughter of Time. Follow Scotland Yard Inspector Alan Grant as he unravels a centuries-old conspiracy to uncover the truth about "The Princes in the Tower". A must-read for fans of historical fiction and mystery alike! Richard III was falsely accused of murdering his own two nephews according to this mystery set in an old English hospital where Grant (a Scotland Yard detective) recuperates and unravels the truth with a history researcher who becomes his friend. This book taught me a new word: “Tonypandy” meaning a historical account everyone knows, repeats and is familiar with but it is actually total bunk or bullshit. The true story has been blotted out by a fake account that becomes “history”. Once a false narrative becomes considered historical truth it is Tonypandy. There are some very surprising examples throughout history. This book explodes the historical narrative about the maligned ruler Richard the third. The Daughter of Time also includes so many now antiquated British words and phrases that it will surely blow your mind. As an American reader it almost seemed like it was written in a foreign language at times. Sadly, the fact that people (from any part of the world) once spoke that eloquently (compared to how people communicate today) says volumes about how illiterate and stupid we’ve become as a species.
